In the garden - 2010

This year's garden was mainly a bust. The spring was cold and wet, summer heat was sparse, and things like tomatoes just didn't have a chance. The cool season crops - broccoli and cauliflower - faired the best. The corn was very, very late and the beans didn't ever grow to height or produce fruit. Here's the lowdown on what we planted...fingers crossed for better luck in 2011!

Beet - 'Early Wonder Tall Top' (seeds)  - decent flavor but not uniform in size
Broccoli - 'Packman' (4) - great
Broccoli - 'Premium Crop' (4) - great
Cauliflower - 'Graffiti' (4) - slow
Cauliflower - 'Green' (6) - bitter (due to weather?)
Cucumber - 'Lemon' (3) (-2, death by chickens) (didn't make it)
Nasturtium - 'Dwarf Jewel Mix' (seeds) - gang busters! great for color and beneficial insects in the garden
Onion - 'Copra Hybrid (storage)' (seeds) - didn't bulb (too many rocks), but great for green onion tops
Pole Bean - 'Blue Lake' (2 rows, seeds) - non-producers this year
Radish - 'Easter Egg II' (seeds) - good and HOT!
Summer Squash - 'Bush White Scallop' (+1) - slow
Sweet Corn - 'Bodacious' (6 rows, seeds) - late due to weather
Sweet Pepper - 'North Star' (1) - didn't do well, should plant under cover
Tomato - 'Black' (1) (+1) - all tomatoes were a bust this year
Tomato - 'Glacier' (1)
Tomato - 'Green Zebra' (+1)
Tomato - 'Mortgage Lifter' (+1)
Tomato - 'Oregon Spring' (4) (+2)
Tomato - 'Purple Cherokee' (4)
Tomato - 'Red Pear' (4)
Tomato - 'Tumbling Tom Red' (+1)
Tomato - 'Willamette' (1) (+1)
Winter Squash - 'Butternut' (5) - slow, may not do well in my zone
Winter Squash - 'Heart of Gold' (4) (-4, death by chickens) - loss
Winter Squash - 'Spaghetti' (4) - four small-to-medium sized fruits
Zucchini - 'Zucchini' (generic) (4) - slow! (I know, weird!!)
